Julian from Griffin Engraving and I recently had the great pleasure of creating a prototype head tube badge for the legendary Johhny Chopper, boutique BMX manufacturer, here in Queensland. If you haven't checked out Johnny Chopper before now head to www.johnnychopper.com - Gary does beautiful work creating retro frames inspired by famous old school frame designs, and also creating leading edge contemporary race and freestyle BMX frames. He's also a master if you need a special vintage frame repair. To create the prototype JC badge I first modified Gary's logo to create a combination of high points and recesses that would ideally suit the engraving process. Julian then engraved directly from the modified artwork into 1mm aluminium sheet. From there I cut out, coloured, polished, shaped and lacquered the badge to create the finished product.
